A family home, which has been untouched since 1940, will be auctioned today. Grange Farm, located in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, will be auctioned together with post-war contents. The owners of the house, brother and sister Jack and Audrey Newton, are both deceased and lived in the house together for over 70 years.
The sale of the contents of the Queen Anne-style farmhouse came about after Jack’s recent death. He was 90. Both siblings died unmarried without children.
Pat Ruck, who has been helping the executors of the Newton's wills organise the auction, said: "The house contents have not been touched since their late parents' time.
"It's a time warp of interesting items, curiosities, and even war memorabilia."
Among the house’s content include a wartime amputation kit, an old television, and musical instruments from the 1920s and 1930s. There’s also an original sheet music from that era.
Pat added: "Although they never married they had an interesting life. It really is the end of a bygone era.
