A spooky noise is expected to be heard this weekend as cauliflowers will create ghostly noise as they rub against each other, fighting for space during a massive growth spurt.
Farmers said that a sudden rise in night temperatures will make the vegetables grow a massive 3cm a day this weekend. This is expected to lead to “the cauliflower creak” which will be the loudest in decades, particularly in the prime growing areas of rural Cornwall and Lincolnshire.
David Simmons, a grower in Hayle, Cornwall, said: “It’s rare for the cauliflower creak to be so pronounced.
"You can actually hear the crops growing.”
He added the spurt will produce 'the sweetest crop' of the vegetable for 25 years.
