The Voice reject Sam Buttery has bagged a singing contract after all, but it’s not for an album. Instead, he will be part of the West End Boy George musical called ‘Taboo’. 

 

Sam, who the coaches had mistaken for a girl during the blind auditions in BBC1’s famed talent show, will take the role of Leigh Bowery in the musical. He will be taking over the role from camp crooner George.

 

Sam described this new opportunity as ‘amazing’ and shared that he ‘just can’t wait’. “Leigh Bowery is such an icon to me, so to get the chance to play him is just phenomenal.”

 

The wacky and excited Sam is a far cry from the Sam that audiences saw last May, when he fought back tears as The Voice coaches Will.i.am and Tom Jones decided to save other acts. He exited the show with another contestant Sophie Griffin. 

 

After getting booted off the show, Sam had remained positive and had said in an interview: “Obviously I’m really gutted, and I feel like my heart’s been ripped out. But I’m still a bit happy…it’s just been amazing.” 

 

He was also remembered to have said, “This isn’t the end for me.” And it certainly isn’t, especially now that he’s bagged a musical contract. 

 

‘Taboo’ will begin in September and will run until late December at the Brixton Club House in London.
