BBC shows, which include BBC One’s singing talent show, The Voice, have allocated funds to up-and-coming creative talent across the UK. The money, which is about £430,000, was raised through phone voting. The charity received 10p for every 25p vote. It also receives proceeds from the show’s song downloads.
The money will be used to fund 19 writers, producers, and directors, to work with professional theaters. Another 58 community theatre projects, which include disable arts group in Belfast and children’s theatre in Bristol, will also receive grants.
So far, the fund has distributed more than £4m to musicians and dancers working in theatres.
