The incident created an international outcry and effigies of Jade where burnt in India. Prime Minister Gordon Brown (then Chancellor of the Exchequer) even condemned the programme which attracted more than 45,000 viewer complaints.

Inevitably Jade was evicted from the Celeb BB, receiving 82% of the public vote when placed against Shilpa. Her high-profile return was a PR disaster.
