A cow gave birth to healthy triplets, defying odds of a million.

A cow from Cornwall is really one in a million after she gave birth to a healthy triplets on Sunday morning. 

 

Shocked farmer Bernard Hoskins was expecting twins but was shocked to find the third under a bush. 

 

Although its very common for cows to give birth to twins, having triplets is an extremely rare occurrence. In fact, betting company Ladbrokes told the farmer’s family the odds of the triplet birth were one million to one. 

 

The three calves were named May, June, and Juliette, which are going to be kept as pets. 

 

Bernard, 59, who runs Greenacres Farm, in Silverwell, Cornwall, said: “I was expecting her to have twins.

“She was obviously calving when I went in for breakfast and when I came back after breakfast she had already dropped two and then we saw the third.

 

“She got on with it really quickly.

 

“We’ve never had triplets before, I’ve never even heard of anyone having triplets before.

“I think we will keep them, they are a bit special to us now.”

 

Meanwhile, the farmer’s wife, Carol, said: “They are absolutely gorgeous.

 

“She gave birth in our field all on her own, we were told she was expecting twins so we were very surprised to find she had three.

 

“We saw the first two and thought, ‘oh that’s lovely’ and then there was another one under the hedge.”

Paul Gluya, of the regional livestock board, said: “It’s incredibly unusual. We have never ever had triplets before.

 

“I would say the odds on it happening were several hundred thousand to one.”
