On Monday, Taliban bombers have attacked a US base near the Pakistani border in eastern Afghanistan. Three insurgents were killed. Reports confirmed that the suicide bombers, who were dressed as Afghan police officers, torched Nato supply trucks on the highway, resulting to a shootout that killed three assailants.
A spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said: "There were a series of explosions that occurred in the vicinity of a forward operating base in Nangarhar province.”
"There were three enemy forces killed during the attack. We can confirm that no ISAF personnel were killed as a result of this incident.”
However, officials expect that the financial cost of the attack to be huge. Several Nato supply vehicles were badly burned on the highway.
ISAF spokesman added: "Our initial assessment of this morning's events, which occurred in the vicinity of a forward operating base located in Nangarhar province, is that it was an attempted but unsuccessful co-ordinated attack by enemy forces."
