Saturday's (18.02.06) Rolling Stones concert in Rio was a load of rubbish - 220 tons of it.

The Brazilian resort is still cleaning up after more than one million people dropped their empty bottles, cans and food wrappers on the beach.

So far more than 400 city workers have removed almost 220 tons of rubbish from the outside venue.

Nearly 500 people needed minor medical treatment during and after the show - including treatment for stabbings. However, none of the victims' injuries were considered life threatening.

Despite the concert being hailed as a success, not every fan was pleased with the mammoth show.

Lisania da Conceicao, a 22-year-old maid, said: "I went to the concert but couldn't see anything, not even the screens.

"My friends came from Aruama, 80 miles west of Rio, and couldn't see anything either, and they were robbed."

The legendary band opened with classic hit 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' and during the show, lead singer Mick Jagger - who has a Brazilian son - ad-libbed comments in Portuguese - the native tongue of South American country.

At one point, the 62-year-old rocker wore a white shirt with the Brazilian flag and the words "Brasil" and "Rio de Janeiro" emblazoned across it.
