Steve's plans to get back his daughter in Coronation Street backfire spectacularly when Tracy finds out what he's doing - and flees town with the little girl.
Simon Gregson's character has been finding it hard to keep up the pretence of being madly in love with Tracy, played by Kate Ford.
He is only really staying with her to get his name on their daughter's birth certificate, although she believes they are setting up a long life together.
After some wheedling, Steve finally manages to persuade Tracy that replacing Roy's name with his on the certificate would make them stronger as a family.
She's not so sure, particularly when Roy refuses to help them change the name, but Steve works his charm and the not so amorous couple finally set off for court with little Amy.
Only moments away from being formally named Amy's dad, however, Steve is horrified to see Blanche arrive with news that will bring his dream crashing to the ground.
She reveals Steve has no intention of buying her house for him and Tracy to live in - showing that his intentions are far from pure towards the desperate mum.
"Suddenly Tracy realises that he has been using her to get to Amy and confronts the man she loves," an insider said.
"Steve tries to justify his actions, but she refuses to listen and leaves Weatherfield in floods of tears with Amy."
