'EastEnders' student nurse Sonia Fowler is set to have a lesbian affair.

The brunette babe, played by Natalie Cassidy, begins to have strong feelings towards friend Naomi Julien - who she has already shared a steamy kiss with - spelling trouble for her marriage to Martin.

Sonia's feelings come to the surface when she is comforting her pal, played by Petra Letang, after a disastrous blind date.

A show insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "When Naomi is weeping, saying that she is desperate to meet someone who loves her, Sonia realises that she could well be that someone. And it's now just a matter of time before the Fowler marriage hits even more troubled waters."

Sonia's lesbian urges result in her going cold in the bedroom towards Martin, portrayed by James Alexandrou, prompting the frustrated green-grocer to look elsewhere for love.
