Jamie Oliver's political win

TV chef Jamie Oliver has been voted the most inspiring political figure of 2005.

More than 14,000 people voted for the celebrity cook - who was nominated for his TV campaign for better school meals - in the Channel 4 News Poll.

The 30-year-old beat Prime Minister Tony Blair and Tory leader David Cameron to take the top spot.

One viewer is quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "Jamie shamed the government into acting but what he did was shame us all about accepting second best for our children."

Second place went to Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti, who won a fifth of the vote for her efforts to fight against injustice.

'Celebrity Big Brother' star MP George Galloway scooped 16% of the vote and took third place for his opposition to the Iraq war.

Live 8 organiser Bob Geldof took fourth place, scooping 10% of the vote.
