Sonia Fowler turns to booze after she's banned from seeing her daughter in a gripping 'EastEnders' storyline.

The troubled character, who is played by Natalie Cassidy, is devastated when she's suddenly excluded from Rebecca's life.

Sonia - who dumped husband Martin, played by James Alexandrou, for lesbian Naomi, played by Petra Letang - could even lose her nursing position after hospital bosses discover she's drunk on the job.

A show insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Dreadful times are ahead for Sonia. Since she ditched Martin her life has careered out of control. It's a tragedy in the making.

"Sonia is feeling down about not being able to see Rebecca and isn't focused at work. When another nurse smells alcohol on her breath she is summoned to the office."

Sonia is terrified she's about to get found out - so has another drink to calm her nerves.

The insider added: "Her nursing boss will notice. The situation couldn't get any worse."
