A German theatre has been forced to axe three dwarves from a production of Snow White.

A German theatre has been forced to axe three dwarves from a production of Snow White, the Reuters news agency reports.

A small theatre in the eastern town of Stendal was unable to afford a full cast for its rendition of the famous tale.

With only four dwarves, the director hoped two puppets would help make up the numbers.

The actor playing the prince was supposed to double up as the seventh dwarf but got stuck at work.

Theatregoers were unimpressed and demanded the seven dwarves they'd paid for.

"The seventh dwarf wasn't on stage the whole time because he was in stuck down in the mine working overtime," theatre spokeswoman Susanne Kreuzer told the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
