Oddball comedy Sideways has proven to be the tipple of choice for film critics Stateside, with the Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) and the Southeastern Film Critics both heaping praise on the wine-swilling road trip movie.
The CFCA named director Alexander Payne's film winner in no less than five categories, including best film and best actor for Paul Giamatti.
The Southeastern Film Critics went one further, awarding the film its much-coveted best film of the year accolade, naming Payne as best director and Jim Taylor as best screenplay writer along the way.
Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen picked up best supporting actor and actress gongs for their roles in the film.
These latest awards come hot on the heels of the best film awards from critics associations in New York and Los Angeles. Sideways has also received a nomination for a Golden Globe.
