Cute celebrity couple Zac Effron and Vanessa Hudgens have called time on their relationship, it has been confirmed.

The 23-year-old actor and his childhood sweetheart, who turns 22 today, have been together for three years after meeting on the set of teen favourite High School Musical.

No one else is involved in the split, but it appears that the pair simply grew apart.

Their fairytale romance began when they were paired together on High School Musical and both have said they felt an instant attraction.

When rumours of their relationship surfaced, their fans rejoiced and their relationship was said to be one of the strongest in the industry.

The news comes as another Hollywood couple announce they have also split.

Anna Friel and her partner of nine years David Thewlis have called time on their relationship too, after months of living apart due to acting commitments.

The 34-year-old actress is said to have moved a young actor into their home, after 47-year-old Thewlis was away for six months filming a new movie.

She was spotted kissing said actor, Joseph Cross, last December, although always maintained that he was a good friend.

The couple, who have a five-year-old daughter Gracie, have always maintained they have a strong relationship despite never wishing to marry.
