Teen drama series Hollyoaks is to feature one of its most shocking storylines to date.
Over Christmas, viewers will see pole dancer Loretta Jones' unease as she is forced to relive the past when former best friend Chrissy arrives in town.
Her anxiety is soon explained when it is revealed the pair have been living under false identities after serving time for murdering a child at the age of 12.
The shocking revelations come when Loretta (played by Melissa Walton) is reunited with former friend and accomplice Chrissy (Amber Hadgkiss) leaving her to fear the truth will come out.
The plot echoes that of the real life tragedy of James Bulger, who was abducted in 1993 and killed by two 10-year-olds. The pair were sentenced and spent years in prison before being released with new identities in 2001.
Of the similarities a show source told The Sun: "We appreciate the episodes deal with a sensitive subject but it has all been thoroughly researched.
"The drama is about how Loretta reacts to Chrissy's arrival back in her life and how she copes with all the memories coming flooding back."
