Shane Richie is to turn from playing lovable London ruffian Alfie Moon in EastEnders to lovable London ruffian Fagin in a TV version of the musical Oliver!
In what sounds like a pantomime-esque New Year's Day special, BBC1 will screen a new version of Lionel Bart's musical, which features such classic singalong tunes as Food Glorious Food and Got to Pick a Pocket or Two.
And Shane will play the charismatic orphan-stealer who makes his living by sending his proteges out to pick the pockets of wealthy Londoners.
A BBC leak told the Sun: "Shane's got such a lot of charisma, he's perfect for the role of Fagin.
"We're still working out the cast, but it will be a great show."
Shane seems to be drawn to the world of Charles Dickens, as he is also set to play Scrooge in a touring production which begins in November.
His last appearance as Alfie on Albert Square will be around Christmas.
