A lot of us feel as woozy as if we were about to jump off from a plane at the thought of the Christmas expenditure. But with the tips mentioned below, you do not have to be penny-pinching. All said and done, staying grounded is the key to wise shopping during the holidays.
A gift of your time is sometimes more precious
Often, we think of gifts as those that can only be bought at the shop. However, sometimes even the most expensive gifts may not necessarily be what the recipient really needs and can appreciate.
You can give a personal promissory note that of your promise to cook dinner, clean the car, babysit or even give a much-needed massage. There are beautiful personal checks on the internet that you can use to proclaim your gift which they can claim upon demand.
Discourage uncalled for gift giving
Do not get carried away with the Christmas spirit of gift giving. Gifts are meant to be given to family and people really special to you. We should stop the practice of buying just anything for the sake of being able to give a gift to a colleague which might just end up in a dark corner of their basement storage.
Kids love gifts that intrigue them and keep them occupied, not necessarily those that cost a lot.
An experiment was conducted with several five-year old kids, gifting them with empty boxes wrapped in pretty Christmas wrappers. They found it interesting enough and kept on playing with them for almost an hour.
Don’t get carried away with the Christmas feeling and go overboard in making everything extra “special”.
Christmas is a special time and everywhere the consumer turns, he or she is urged to spend more to make it truly special. Little do we know that the basic items are just wrapped in Christmas fineries to give the impression of being the finest or a level up of the standard products.
