Christmas is again almost upon us. It is a most anticipated day of the year and should be a happy occasion entirely. However, looking at your Christmas list and your very tight budget makes you want to push back the holiday season a bit farther to buy you some more time to prepare for it.
The following tips may yet save the day.
Delay your gift giving
Of course, all business establishments try to cash in on the shopping fever and put their prices a bit more for bigger profits. There is wisdom in buying your gifts after the holidays when most of the items will priced a lot cheaper or even on sale. Give your family promissory notes of what gifts you will give them. The money you save can be used to buy several token gifts. Your children could learn from the value of delayed gratification and an important lesson in wise handling of their finances.
Save at least 5% off from your purchases
Credit cards that offer cash back on your purchases are a real boon. You can use your card for all your standard spending. Just make sure that you set up a system to pay everything in full come due date to avoid incurring interest charges. The rebates are accumulated and usually paid on the card’s anniversary date. There is a caveat attached to this however, repay your due amount fully or suffer the consequence of a high APR.
Donate to worthy causes in your friend or loved ones name
You might have friends or loved ones which you find hard to give a gift. If you are uncertain if your gift will be truly appreciated, you can opt to donate in their name, on some worthy causes such as the Ebola fundraiser at www.dec.org.uk or purchase gift cards saying that her £5 gift can buy 50 bowls of rice through www.goodgifts.org which will feed 50 undernourished children.
