Robert Pattinson has finally appeared on television and in front of a live audience for the first time since his long-time girlfriend Kristen Stewart was caught in the arms of married director Rupert Sanders.
The 'Twilight' actor was visibly awkward during his interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show as the talk show host tried to get information on Kristen. While many presumed that the 49-year-old TV veteran would not be allowed to ask awkward questions, he managed to sneak the subject into the conversation.
The beginning of the interview showed no signs of his intentions to bring up Kristen. He simply asked R-Patz what the actor has been up to. The actor was thrown off his guard as the question was different from what they had pre-recorded. He said: “I thought we’d already prepared this. I had a joke prepared! I was all set up and ready to go. Now it’s meaningless.”
Then Jon brought out two tubs of ice cream as a direct reference to girly gossip sessions. The ice cream became Rob’s salvation as he found himself diving into it to avoid awkward questions.
With Jon asking him whether he was alright, Robert deflected by saying: “This is the weird thing about these interviews, and now I’m going to sound like an idiot, but my biggest problem in my life is that I’m cheap. I didn’t hire a publicist and every awkward interview, most actors have things scripted. I’m going to hire a publicist.”
At one point, Jon said: “Boy, you are better off without…so kick her to the curb!”
Robert giggled but fixed his eyes at his ice cream and took an awkward bite. Despite his discomfort, he did not once let a word about the status of his relationship slip out. There was no mention of Kristen, and Robert professionally talked about his upcoming movie 'Cosmopolis', for which the interview was really about.
