Robbie Williams has become the biggest single shareholder of his hometown football team.
The superstar singer has invested around £260,000 in struggling Port Vale - the team he has supported all his life - buying himself a 20 per cent share.
The ailing team, which has been suffering from well publicised financial problems, is based in Stoke-On-Trent, the town Robbie grew up in.
The 'Rock DJ' singer's decision to invest in the club has sparked speculation he is to move back to Britain from his home in Los Angeles - to take a hands on approach with his investment.
He said last night (27.02.06): "Although I can't be at Port Vale often enough, my investment is just to say that my heart is still there and I'm a huge supporter.
"I'm really excited about what we may be able to do with the club in the future.
"My heart strings have definitely been pulled hearing about Port Vale's problems.
"I've been a fan all my life. When I was younger I used to dream about sitting in the chairman's box."
