Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie is reportedly planning a return to the genre that launched his career.
His new film, Revolver, stars Ray Liotta and Ritchie-flick regular Jason Statham and is a London-based tale of a gambler who gets in too deep and has a contract taken out on his head.
Variety reports that the movie has started shooting on location in London and on the Isle Of Man and will reportedly focus on substantial action sequences.
The film, produced by Marty Katz and Luc Besson, had been set aside a year ago by Ritchie to concentrate on Sony's Western, Six Shooter. However, Six Shooter fell apart and Ritchie resurrected Revolver, which he co-wrote with Ethan Gross and Paul Todisco.
Rumours have been circulating that Brad Pitt, who starred in Snatch, will also appear in Revolver and US rapper Andre 3000, one half of the chart topping group Outkast, will make his movie debut in the film.
Ritchie will, no doubt, be hoping that Revolver will erase the memory of superflop Swept Away, his disastrous film with megastar wife Madonna.
Ritchie's former partner in British crime films, producer-turned-director Matthew Vaughn, is currently enjoying critical and box office success with UK gangster flick Layer Cake, starring Daniel Craig and Michael Gambon.
