Box office success for Austen adaptation

A Bollywood-inspired version of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice has topped the UK box office in its opening weekend.
Bride and Prejudice grossed nearly 1.7 million in its first three days on general release, nudging British romcom Wimbledon into third place.
Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha took Austen's famous novel and set it in modern London.
The 10 million film stars former Miss World and Indian superstar Aishwarya Rai and tells the story of a family's attempt to marry off their daughters to men of higher social standing.
Horror flick Saw stayed at number two, while Resident Evil: Apocalypse debuted at number four, followed by gangster flick Layer Cake, which slipped two places to number five.
Revenge thriller Man On Fire, starring Denzel Washington and Christopher Walken, entered the chart at number six in its first week on general release, followed by comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
