Nicole Richie has been injured in a car crash involving a paparazzi press member.

The starlet, who was behind the wheel of a Land Rover, was hit by a paparazzo in a Jeep Cherokee in Beverly Hills on Monday.

Initially, it appeared to be a minor collision but then she told police at the scene that she wasn't feeling well and was later taken to hospital by her mother.

Lieutenant Tony Lee of the Beverly Hills Police said: "Ms. Richie was driving with a passenger around 2pm when she was struck by two photographers driving in one vehicle behind her.

"She complained of pain. Her car sustained moderate damage. No paramedics were called to the scene."

Following the incident, Nicole’s mother Brenda arrived on the scene to help her distraught daughter. Asked if she was feeling alright, Brenda replied: “No she’s not.”

Another adult was in the car with Nicole, but her two children with partner Joel Madden - 20-month-old daughter Harlow and one-month-old son Sparrow - were not present at the time of the incident.

Nicole Richie is the adopted daughter of singing legend Lionel Richie. Nicole found fame on her own accord in the reality television series 'The Simple Life'.
