However you're planning to celebrate Bonfire Night, make sure you have a look at our top tips and you're sure to have a safe and fun fifth of November.

 

Find a display

 

Fancy a bit more of a show this Bonfire Night? Public authorities actually advise you that the safest way to enjoy Bonfire Night is at an organised public display. There are always plenty of displays in and around your local area, all complete with a bonfire, fireworks show and usually a bit of food to go with it. Just look out for signs when you're out and about or check your local newspaper for displays near you.

 

It's a good idea to take a torch if you're planning on going to a public display and make sure everyone is wrapped up warm.

 

Prefer to stay inside and cosy at home?

 

Just get yourself to a window and you can watch the skies light up from the comfort of your couch! You could also indulge in some treacle toffee, parkin or buy a packet of sparklers to get you in the mood, just make sure you stay safe and follow the information below.

Follow the Fireworks Code

 

 

You're bound to have seen the adverts and you may think you're prepared when it comes to Bonfire Night, but you can take no chances when it comes to safety around Bonfire Night. Follow our guidelines for a safe Bonfire Night:

 

• Only buy fireworks with British Standard 7114 markings
• Keep fireworks in a closed box
• Always light fireworks at arm's length using a torch or taper - never a naked flame
• Follow firework instructions exactly
• Never go back to a lit firework
• Stand well back
• Never put fireworks in your pocket
• Never throw fireworks
• Keep pets indoors
• Supervise children at all times
• Never give sparklers to children under five
• Wear gloves when handling sparklers

 

The person looking after your firework display should have a torch, a bucket of water or sand, eye protection, gloves and suitable supports and launchers for the fireworks.
