Reese Witherspoon is suing a magazine that claimed she was pregnant with her third child.
The Oscar-winning actress claims America's Star magazine invented the story and invaded her privacy.
Witherspoon - who already has two children, six-year-old Ava Elizabeth and Deacon, two, with husband Ryan Phillippe - filed her claim for unspecified general and punitive damages against the publication's parent company, American Media Inc, in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (22.06.06).
The cover story, which appeared in the magazine's June 26 issue, alleges the 30-year-old was unwilling to tell the producers of her upcoming films she is expecting again and has been wearing baggy clothes to hide the pregnancy.
Witherspoon - who is one of Hollywood's hottest stars - claims the story has hurt her reputation by implying that she was dishonest.
In April, the star claimed she never reads her own press because she's sick of speculation about her private life.
She said: "I know what's true and I don't live my life like a famous fancy person. I don't read any of it - it just doesn't matter to me. I feel like people read it one day and the dog pees on it the next. I really just don't care."
