Prince Johan Friso has died after 18 months in coma

After being caught up in avalanche last year and after 18 months in a coma, Prince Johan Friso of the Netherlands has died aged 44.

On August 12th, a palace statement confirmed that Prince Johan Friso has died at the age of 44.

“His Majesty the King (Willem-Alexander) announces with great regret that this morning his highness Prince Johan Friso ... died at the Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague, aged 44.”

The statement also said "Prince Friso has died of complications related to the hypoxic brain injury, which he suffered as the result of his skiing accident in Lech, Austria on 17 February 2012.”

Prince Johan Friso has died after 18 months in a coma following an accident at a ski resort in Austria, officials have said.

The Prince died on Monday morning in The Hague with his wife, Princess Mabel at his bedside.
