Police have taken in two people following a shooting in which a couple from the UK were left injured. The woman, who is named Ann Prior, aged 59, and her husband Philip, were shot while on their cruise holiday to the Caribbean.
Reportedly the pair were robbed and fired at on Sunday, 17th March, in Barbados’ capital Bridgetown. The incident occurred after the cruise ship they were travelling on docked at port, allowing holidaymakers to enjoy the popular Caribbean island.
They were taken to hospital for treatment following the shooting. Mrs. Prior has now left hospital and her husband is understood to be a stable condition.
It is believed that the two Brits were travelling with a P&O cruise ship for the duration of their trip abroad.
A spokesperson for them said: “Two passengers on Adonia were hospitalised in Bridgetown, Barbados following an incident on shore on Sunday March 17. One passenger has since been released from hospital.”
Adding: “Local authorities are investigating. Our shore-side customer care team and ship's medical team are providing support as necessary."
The cruise ship is expected back in the UK shortly after the Easter Bank Holiday weekend at the start of April, 2013.
The Caribbean islands are popular with many holiday-makers of all ages every year. The Caribbean Sea is situated next to the Caribbean, with the Gulf of Mexico and the North Atlantic Ocean close by. Certain islands situated in the area include; the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands.
