The rags to riches tale of Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts that was set for a Hollywood adaptation has been axed.

Former mobile phone salesman Paul Potts found international fame on the ITV talent show and went on to become a multi-millionaire opera star.

Cowell had developed the script for the film which was set to be called 'One Chance' while Matthew Vaughn was set to produce for Paramount Pictures.

Vaughn, who directed 'Stardust' and 'Kiss Ass', told The Sun: "It should have gone ahead. Simon and I had a good vision for how the film should be, and it would have been brilliant.

"But the studios were umm-ing and ahh-ing and they missed the opportunity to do it.

"It's tragic, because the script was brilliant. Simon had done a great job.

"I was looking forward to working with him and it would have been a big hit."

It is believed that the biggest concern of the aborted film, however, was the casting of the lead role. A-list stars Vince Vaughn and Jack Black had been linked to the project.

Regardless of this missed opportunity, Vaughn is confident that Cowell will still make a big impact on the film world. He said: "His biggest skill set is understanding what the public wants.

"Judging by the script he gave me, film will be the next conquest."
