Only Fools and Horses has been named as the Best British Sitcom in a national vote on a live BBC show.
More than one and a half million votes were received for the top ten sitcoms and Only Fools and Horses gained 342,426 (22.2 per cent) of those. Second placed Blackadder received 282,106 votes (18.3 per cent).
Written by John Sullivan, the Peckham-set comedy stars David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and has been running since 1981. The stories of market stall holders Del boy and Rodney Trotter have kept people laughing for 23 years.
After Jonathan Ross had revealed the result, actor David Jason, who plays Del boy, said "I am delighted that something which gave me some of the happiest times of my life still gives pleasure to so many people."
Other finalists who reached the top 10 included Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Porridge and Open All Hours.
Only Fools and Horses is the only sitcom in the top 10 that is still being produced.
