Several concert promoters are seriously considering using Olympic Stadium as a concert venue following an impressive live music at the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics. Although final contracts are yet to be signed, the plan is to hold concerts at the stadium this July.
London Legacy Development Corporation Chief Dennis Hone said that this is an ‘exciting opportunity.’ He added: "The exciting thing for us is that we have the opportunity to put on some major events in the park - some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on 27 and 28 July.”
Concert promoters’ interest in using the Olympic Stadium could be partly because of the increasing number of noise complaints received by Hyde Park, which has staged rock concerts for decades.
Because of these complaints, Westminster Council has decided to reduce the number of concerts every year from 13 to nine. In addition, the council limited the number of audience that can attend these concerts from 80,000 to 50,000-80,000.
The Olympic Stadium is expected to become a major rival to 02 Arena and Wembley – two of London’s major concert venues.
