Noel Edmonds pulled out of what would have been his return to BBC1’s Saturday night slots because his new show ‘The Bodyguard’ was not exciting enough. 

 

Reports say that Edmonds signed up for a big-budget entertainment series that will succeed the recently cancelled 'Total Wipeout'. The new show ‘The Bodyguard’ will see members of the general public play the role of celebrity bodyguards and go through several challenges. 

 

However, after the filming of the pilot last week, Edmonds announced that he did not want to do the show after all. BBC1 bosses had to find another big-name TV presenter who would be willing to do a full series. 

 

The BBC1 is keen on bringing Noel back to the family after he and BBC bosses had a row over Edmond’s previous show, 'Noel’s House Party', which was axed in 1999. Now, it seems like they have to keep on working on that reconciliation. 

 

Insiders close to Noel said: “He filmed the pilot on the basis that he would only do a full series if he thought it was amazing, different, and exciting – and he didn’t feel that.”

 

“To take on another big show, it would need to really blow him away.” 

 

Noel does not think the show is doomed to fail, though. He simply thinks he is not the right person for the show. 

 

The final decision on the future of the new show will be made later this year.
