Gwen Stefani, who fronts pop band No Doubt, missed being treated like a star when she read for her first movie role.
Stefani will appear as Jean Harlow in The Aviator, Martin Scorsese's biopic of eccentric entrepreneur Howard Hughes.
Her part was confined to just one page of the script and she only had a single line to read.
But Stefani said she felt "humiliated" when she was not given the sort of treatment she has come to expect as a successful recording artist.
"It was humiliating because you get used to being a star," Stefani admitted.
The singer is however keen to pursue a movie career and is on the look out for more substantial roles.
The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale, is due for release later this year.
