Leonardo DiCaprio is planning to produce and star in an action movie based on the theme of mercenaries.

DiCaprio is said to be keen to explore the phenomenon of governments hiring private armies to fight their battles.

The Gangs of New York star was one of the many celebrities who came out to encourage American voters to go to the polls in last week's presidential election.

According to Variety, DiCaprio wants his next project to tackle an important political issue and has hired Scott Burns, who wrote The Informant, to pen the script.

DiCaprio can next be seen playing the lead role in The Aviator, Martin Scorsese's biopic of the eccentric entrepreneur, Howard Hughes.
