NASA’s chief scientist, Ellen Stofan said in a web-streamed panel discussion last week that we are on the brink of discovering alien life.
"I think we're going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth within a decade, and I think we're going to have definitive evidence within 20 to 30 years,"
She added: "We know where to look. We know how to look. In most cases we have the technology, and we’re on a path do implementing it… so we’re definitely on the road."
Former astronaut John Grunsfeld, echoed her views saying that were just one generation away from finding life in the solar system. He added that it could be on an icy moon or on Mars.
It has been established that there’s liquid water below the surface of Jupiter’s moons Europa and Ganymede as well as across Mars. The Curiosity rover also found raw materials for Earth-life like in the planet.
