The recent auction at Christie’s ended up with “very, very strong sale, with great results”. One of Claude Monet’s famous water lily paintings was sold for $43.7million, and a painting by Wassily Kandinsky was sold for $23million, which is apparently a record-breaking price for the artist.
Other paintings that sold included those from Miro and Piccaso.
Of those 69 paintings up for action, 30per cent were not sold. This included Picasso’s sculpture and the works of Chagall and Degas, Reuters reported.
However, the Head of Impressionist and modern art at Christie's, said it was a "very, very strong sale, with great results" as reported by the BBC.
Other paintings that were sold included Kandinsky’s Studie fur Improvisation 8 (estimated price $20million to $30million), Alberto’s Giacometti’s bronze La Jambe for $11.3million, and Joan Miro’s Peinture for $13.7million.
Another auction at Sotheby’s was delayed due to Storm Sandy.
