Missy Elliott claims she was never fat - just big boned.

The outrageous rap star, who used to wear size 22 clothes, has lost 70 pounds on doctor's orders.

However, the 33-year-old says she never considered herself fat and blames her Southern heritage.

She told Britain's Sunday Times magazine: "I'm from the South, and Southern people are big-boned. They just grow with big bones because they are always cooking fried pork chop, fried chicken, fried everything.

"I never felt out of place. It wasn't as if I was sitting in a room full of top models."
