Van Gogh's stunning painting was an addition to his world famous Sunflowers series. It caught the attention Koyatat Yamamota who promptly exported it to Japan in 1920.

He thought the safest place to store such a piece would be a bank vault. However an American air raid in 1945 set fire to the building wilting the masterwork.
