Following the heavy reductions of its lower-spec Surface RT last month, Microsoft has slashed Surface Pro’s tag price by £60 in the United States. The tablet will be sold at 10per cent discount for most of August. Price reductions were also announced in Canada, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, but not in the UK.
“We’ve been seeing great worldwide success with Surface RT pricing and keyboard-cover promotions over the past several months and are proud to offer Surface Pro at more affordable prices,” Microsoft said in a statement.
Microsoft has made revenue of $853million on Surface Pro in its last fiscal year, which ended on June 30th. For the first quarter of 2013, the company shipped 900,000 Surface tablets.
Apple on the other hand, shipped 19.5million iPads grabbing 40per cent market share. Samsung followed with 18per cent share, Asus at 5.5per cent, and Amazon.com at 3.7per cent share.
