Ewan McGregor turned down the role of James Bond.
'Casino Royale' director Martin Campbell offered the role to the 'Moulin Rouge' actor when bosses first started looking for a new Bond, but Ewan snubbed the offer over fears of being typecast.
Campbell, who also directed 'GoldenEye', told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper: "I think he got another job or decided he didn't want it."
The 'Star Wars' actor, 35, admits playing the suave spy would have been "fun" but said he had concerns over the long-term nature of the role.
A source revealed: "I think Ewan has a greater ranger than being stuck in one role - which he would have been for quite some time."
The part eventually went to Daniel Craig, despite Campbell apparently not being "totally convinced" the 38-year-old was a match for previous Bonds, including Sir Sean Connery.
Craig - who has reportedly signed a three film deal - was branded "too soft" by 007 fans, after getting injured in his first fight scene and admitting he was scared of heights.
He was also blasted for not being able to master the gears in Bond's Aston Martin car and demanding an automatic vehicle instead.
'Casino Royale' is released worldwide on November 17.
