McCartney wows Super Bowl crowd

Paul McCartney wowed thousands of fans at last night's (06.02.05) Super Bowl - with a further billion TV viewers tuning in.

The legendary ex-Beatle was paid a staggering £1.8million for his half-time performance at the American football match - the equivalent of £150,000 a minute.

McCartney treated the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, to a string of classic Beatles hits, including 'Get Back', 'Drive My Car', 'Hey Jude' and Wings track 'Live and Let Die'.

The performance was hailed a success after last year's 'Nipplegate' scandal when Janet Jackson caused outrage by exposing her breast during a duet with Justin Timberlake.

Meanwhile, McCartney has defended wife Heather Mills from stinging criticism over claims she is trying to replace his late wife.

On Saturday (05.02.05), it emerged the musician had co-written and recorded a song with his wife for his forthcoming new album, which sparked concern from friends that she was copying Linda, who played with McCartney on his album Wings.

The 62-year-old star issued a statement on Heather's personal website, saying: "It hurts me to see her wounded and not have anyone to put the record straight. The media sometimes suggests a rift between my kids and Heather, but in fact we get on great."
