Sir Paul McCartney has hit back at Yoko Ono - saying John Lennon's widow has said some "daft" things about him.
The legendary Beatle - who has always had a fraught relationship with Yoko - was responding to comments the Japanese artist made about him during last week's prestigious Q music Awards.
McCartney is quoted by Britain's Sunday Express newspaper as saying: "She's John's wife so I have to respect her for that, but I don't have to go any further. I don't want to get into a bun fight but she's said some particularly daft things in her time.
"Yoko is something else. Her life is dedicated to putting me down, that's what she seems to do all the time."
Last week, Yoko launched a veiled attack against McCartney at the Q awards - branding him an inferior musician to Lennon.
Yoko said: "I wish John was here today as he would have really loved it. But I'd like to tell you a story about me and John.
"He always found it extraordinary that people would always cover Paul's songs, and I used to tell him not to worry about all those June and Spoon songs."
