Reacting on the news, Sir Ken Dodd said that he was “proud and also humbled”, paying tribute to all those who had campaigned over the years for him to be recognised.

Sylvia Roberts wrote on Facebook: "About bloody time. True scouse comedian who has always stayed true to his roots. Such a nice unassuming man who has time for everyone no matter creed or class.
"So funny with no need for swearing or dirty jokes .my hubby met him in hospital few weeks ago and he happily posed for picture with him and gave him his autograph. (sic)"
Lily Schofield said: "Went for my morning paper today & saw the headlines. About the wonderful brilliant clean Liverpool Comedian Ken Dodd & was so excited I shouted " Made up it made my day "
"It's was about time this man got his recognition for his wonderful & may I say again Clean performances also his wonderful singing voice. Another talented " Liverpudlian. To my mind " THE BEST."
