Having a pint of Guinness each day could help prevent hearing loss because it has high levels of iron, a new research suggests.
The study added that consuming brown rice, some meat, and leafy green vegetables may also help.
Based on statistics, around 30per cent of the world’s population are believed to be anaemic, a condition that is linked to hearing loss.
Study author Kathleen Schieffer said: 'An association exists between iron deficiency anaemia in adults and hearing loss.
'The next steps are to better understand this correlation and whether promptly diagnosing and treating IDA may positively affect the overall health status of adults with hearing loss.'
Although Guinness and its parent company, Diageo, do not claim that the beverage could prevent hearing loss, its advertising slogan from the 1920’s was “Guiness is good for you!”
However, nutritionists warn a pint contains less than three per cent of the iron needed daily.
