Katherine Jenkins received an online beating from Twitter users after she denied reports of an affair with football star David Beckham.
The singer received several ‘sinister’ and ‘scary’ messages, including death threats, that she was driven to call the police.
A close friend of Jenkins said the singer was so frightened and ‘disgusted’ by the messages that she called the police straight away.
One abusive message read: “I’ll kill that s*** Katherine Jenkins.”
Another message said: “Honestly, and you all said my dislike of Katherine Jenkins was irrational (it is, and that b**** is getting cut if David and Posh split).”
As reported by the Daily Mail, according to Jenkins’ friend: “The threat to ‘cut’ her got to her the most. That guy crossed the line.”
Jenkin’s official representative confirmed the reports, saying: “Due to the serious nature of the threats, the tweets have been reported to the police.”
Following the Twitter backlash, Katherine chose to move forward by tweeting during the weekend to say: “Back to work #HappySaturday”.
The negative messages the singer received came in response to Katherine’s earlier tweets denying rumours about an affair between her and Beckham.
The singer told fans through Twitter that reports of her having an affair with the father of four, were ‘hurtful’ and ‘untrue’.
However, many people criticised Katherine for responding to rumours that many people were unaware of in the first place.
It is understood by some that her actions only gained her negative attention, and that if the rumours would have been ignored they may have died down eventually.
Beckham appears to remain unaffected by the rumours, and has been spotted enjoying time with Posh Spice Victoria, and their children.
