Singer Justin Bieber, whose fans are often referred to as Beliebers, has caused controversy yet again, as his message in a guestbook at the Anne Frank Museum caused outrage in the online community.
The 19-year-old pop idol wrote: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."
Some Twitter users have posted comments on the social network site which voice their disapproval with regards to the comment made by the singer.
However it seems Maatje Mostart, a spokesperson for the Anne Frank museum, doesn’t see anything wrong with Bieber’s comment. She said: “He's 19. It's a crazy life he's living, he didn't mean bad… and also it's nice that he made the effort, he didn't have to come."
She added that Justin’s visit to the museum was a good thing as Anne Frank will become known among more individuals.
Anne Frank spent more than two years hiding from Nazi persecutors during the Second World War in a room. She was sent to a concentration camp. She died when she was 15. Her posthumous diary became a worldwide bestseller.
