Jonathan Creek will reportedly return to BBC One this Christmas.
A one-off Christmas special episode of the popular amateur detective series has been commissioned for the BBC1Â’s festive lineup, reports The British Comedy Guide.
A BBC insider reportedly said:
"It's definitely going ahead, and everyone here is very grateful to David Renwick for bringing back such a loved character for such an important time of year.
"We're very excited to see Jonathan back on screen with a new mystery to unravel."
Creek, played by Alan Davies, is a designer of magicianÂ’s tricks and illusions, who solves seemingly impossible intricately plotted crimes and murders with a sidekick.
Caroline Quentin starred as CreekÂ’s original partner, investigative journalist Maddie Magellan for three years, before being replaced by Julia SawalhaÂ’s character, Carla Borrego.
Sheridan Smith has portrayed blogging sceptic Joey Ross in the last two Jonathan Creek specials in 2009 and 2010.
The insider added that Smith's character has been included in the script, but that Smith has yet to official sign on for the project.
The as yet untitled episode is slated to begin filming in September.
