Jim Carrey has become a grandfather for the first time.

His 22-year-old daughter Jane gave birth on Friday to son Jackson Riley Santana on Friday February 26 at 12:28 in Los Angeles.

The new arrival, which was born a few days ahead the March 3 due date, weighed 7lbs, 11oz and measured 20 inches long.

Actor Carrey, 47, posted on his Twitter page on Tuesday his joy about becoming a granddad, saying: "Something beautiful is right around the corner."

And on Friday he added: "Right around the corner!"

The frontwoman of The Jane Carrey Band and her rocker husband, Blood Money singer Alex 'Nitro' Santana announced they were to be first time parents in July.

Posting a photo of the sleeping newborn wrapped in a blanket, proud new granddad Carrey took to his Twitter page to share his happy news.

He tweeted:"Jackson Riley Santana, My grandson, born today! This is what 7lbs 11oz. of California dynamite looks like!"

Jane is Carrey's only daughter, from his first marriage to Melisa Womer.
