Jason Manford has stepped out to support Gary Barlow, after the latter received several insensitive comments from various internet users following the loss of their baby daughter Poppy who was delivered stillborn.
Despite the difficult events that Gary has suffered lately, he bravely took to the stage with his group Take That during the Olympics Closing Ceremony. This prompted comedian Jason Manford to praise the X Factor judge for his bravery and called him a ‘superstar’.
The comment, which he posted as a status update on Facebook, was met with several responses from fans. Afterwards, Manford wrote an extensive blog post where he described some of his fans as ‘funny’ and ‘respectful’ but also said that some were ‘utterly horrendous’.
Some of the comments accused Barlow of performing for the money, while some also played down the singer’s gift by saying that he wasn’t the only person to receive bad news.
Manford discussed all these examples in his blog post, saying that the people who made those comments were ‘heartless wastes of oxygen who I am ashamed have liked (his) page and (his) work’. “Don’t get me wrong,” he clarified. “I like a bit of banter, I can take a joke, I can take an insult. Sometimes people go too far, sometimes people get a bit personal.”
“What does anger me are people’s genuine opinions. A joke is a joke, we’ve all told an off colour joke to a close friend, knowing full well that it’s not your actual opinion. But some of the comments I saw in those 334 would make your blood run cold.”
