Michael Jackson is recording a song to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The pop superstar, who is currently living in Bahrain after being acquitted of child molestation charges, is hoping to recruit a galaxy of stars to join him on new track 'From The Bottom Of My Heart'.

The singer said: "It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in my country.

"My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy.

"I will be reaching out to others within the music industry, to join me in helping to bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything."

Jackson is hoping to have the single, which will be released on 2 Seas Records - the label owned by his friend Sheikh Abdulla Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain, finished within two weeks.

Jackson has previously had success with charity record 'We Are The World', which he co-wrote with Lionel Richie in 1985 to raise money for Africa's starving.
